What if you wanted to explain rock to someone who had no idea what rock was? Do you spin Falco's "Rock me Amadeus"? Hells no. You spin AC/DC. You pull out the Crue and Ozzy, and you reach back to man who started it all, Chuck Berry himself. So here's my playlist to help you make that happen. It's a lesson on rock, by rock. Rock on rock. This collection of songs should leave anyone with a good handle on the essence of rock: What it is, where it came from, and what it means to the people who rock.

Now that some time has passed and I've read what others have to say, I have to weigh in with my take on how (badly) LOST ended.
But let me get something out of the way right up front: A neat Hollywood ending is not necessarily the sign of a good story and I didn't want as much from LOST. I like a little lasting mystery--fuel to fire repeated viewings and endless conversations with my friends. Having said that, the fundamental questions raised by the show should have been answered and the basic plots concluded. That is, after all, what "the end" means--it means the story you started to tell is over, so there should be pretty obvious clues that this is, in fact, true.

As I read this Reuters story on the financial reform efforts in Congress, I wondered how hollow the Republicans' -- and banks' -- objections would sound if the reform was actually aimed at curbing organized crime. Because let's face it, once you understand what these banks and financial organizations were actually doing, you wonder why it was ever legal in the first place (oh, that's right, it wasn't: that genius Clinton made it legal).
So here's the original story recast as if it was about organized crime. Pawn shops become the banks and the major lenders (JP Morgan Chase, etc) are the crime families. My only point is: Does it really matter one whit that the banks' profits may be hurt when we consider that they almost destroyed the U.S. -- and world -- economy to try and reap those profits?

May's "most played" songs. Songs only make the list if they were added in the last 8 weeks and have also been added to a playlist (that's why it's down to a top 20 this month). From there, it's ordered by number of times played (most to least).
01. "The Royal We" by Silversun Pickups 02. "Laura Palmer's Prom" by You Say Party! We Say Die! 03. "This Woman's Work" by Kate Bush 04. "Right Right Now Now" by Beastie Boys 05. "How You Like Me Now" by Heavy

I name my playlists after whatever is happening at the moment I sign off on them and start the next one (they're all designed to fit on one CD, so there is a moment when a playlist is "full"--I just can't let go of last century's tech!). This one was sealed up while watching TV last night, so: Flashforward Fringe.
01. "Tear You Apart" by She Wants Revenge 02. "The Royal We" by Silversun Pickups 03. "This Woman's Work" by Kate Bush 04. "Laura Palmer's Prom" by You Say Party! We Say Die! 05. "When You Find Out" by The Nerves
